Marissa, An Update (IV)
Things that happened over the last year that you might not know if I haven’t talked to you recently:
We moved! Like a block. We graduated from our one-bedroom apartment where you couldn’t stand in the kitchen and open the fridge door at the same time to a two bedroom apartment where several people can stand in the kitchen at once. The walls are also white and there’s a lot of light, and every day Austin and I look at each other at some point or another and say, “I love our apartment.”
Soon after our move, we got a new member of the family—Alphie, our robot vacuum. Listen, Alphie is the best two hundred dollars we’ve ever spent, and if we talk to our children half as nicely as we talk to him, then we’re going to be fabulous parents.
We went to Utah once a month for like five months, usually for one day or weekend trips for weddings or funerals, and then we swore we would not get on a plane for at least four months. We did not get on a plane for at least four months.
I got pregnant. I spent most of my life thinking that I would have fertility problems, since my parents couldn’t have kids for thirteen years, but lo and behold, I stink at knowing what to worry about. We got pregnant almost instantly, and then I got sick almost instantly. If you’ve been wondering where I was the last couple of months, I was either in my bathroom, on my bed, or on my couch, throwing up or crying. Happily, the second trimester has brought some relief, and we are four months away from taking a tiny human home.
Once again, I have no idea how to position this blog in relation to my life changing. I’m becoming a mom pretty soon here, and I’ve heard a lot of things about how your brain turns into mush and you have literally no time to yourself. I don’t know who I’m going to be at the end of this year, but I hope she still writes from time to time. Regardless, I plan on posting a minimum of once a month until the emergence of Molly Eve Jones.
