D&C 4

You and I must translate these books again. Word by word, line by line, verse by verse, chapter by chapter, God wants the whole thing translated once more, and this time he wants it translated into your native tongue, inflected by your native concerns, and written in your native flesh.

—Adam Miller, Letters to a Young Mormon

Translation

(1) It’s coming. It’s almost here! The final days are upon us, and God will again pour out revelations, will bestow the priesthood upon us, one last time (2) Come and be part of it! Throw all of yourself in it, so that when you die and go before our makers, you can tell them that you did everything you could.

(3) If you want to be chosen, then you are. If you want to be a part of this work, then you are called to it. (4) The time has come to work miracles, to preach the Lord’s word, to bind up the broken hearted and heal the suffering, to build temples and make covenants. (5) To do this work you must have faith that our Heavenly Parents wrought miracles among people in the past and that those people’s human-ness did not prevent those miracles from happening. You must have hope that They will do so again, that your human-ness will not prevent Them from doing it with you. You must have love, and your love with be human, it will not be enough, but it can be transformed in flooding charity.

(6) As you consecrate your life, remember your faith. Seek after that which is lovely and true. Be patient with yourself and others. Be moderate in your desires and actions. Interact with people in ways that ask them to be their best selves. See your smallness in the universe and celebrate that it means that enormity of God’s creations. Work hard and steady. (7) And remember to pray. Your creators are listening, and they delight to teach you, to give to you, to be with you. Amen.

Section 4

Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men.

Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.

Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work;

For behold the field is white already to harvest; and lo, he that thrusteth in his sickle with his might, the same layeth up in store that he perisheth not, but bringeth salvation to his soul;

And faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work.

Remember faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility, diligence.

Ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Amen.
