Spiritual Gifts (D&C 46:10-26)

(10-12) I want you to keep in mind the things that I give you to do my work, so that you can remember what they’re for. Spoiler—they’re so you can serve other people. Learn to be interdependent with each other because, as I’ve been emphasizing for basically this whole book of scripture, you need each other. I need you to accept that. There are lots of gifts, and I spread them out among everyone, so that everyone needs and everyone is needed and everyone benefits.

(13-14) Sometimes I make one of my children sensitive to the promptings of my Spirit, so that they can know with all of themselves that Jesus is the Christ and through his atonement all can be saved. And then, I might turn around and make another child with a listening heart, so that even if they don’t receive direct knowledge from the spirit, they’re able to receive it from their brothers and sisters.

(15) There are lots of ways to receive gifts from me—like, you might be born with them or you might develop them through really intense effort or one day you might suddenly have them—but what’s important here is that I am going to give you gifts in whatever way is best and that, regardless of how you receive them, they come from me….

(17-18) Some people I make wise and others I make knowledgeable (notice that there’s a difference), and both of them I gift with these things so that they can share it with everyone around them.

(19-20) Some people I bless with the ability to be healed and others I bless with the ability to heal, and you’ll notice these gifts too are paired up, and they don’t mean anything without people to share them with.

(21-26) Some of my children I allow to works miracles and others to prophesy, some I bless with the ability to see the souls of others clearly and others I give the gift of learning languages easily and using them well or of understanding language clearly, and all of these gifts, every single one, comes from me. They’re all there for the same reason—so that you’ll be humble and learn from each other and work towards the collective salvation of my children.

10 And again, verily I say unto you, I would that ye should always remember, and always retain in your minds what those gifts are, that are given unto the church.

11 For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God.

12 To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby.

13 To some it is given by the Holy Ghost to know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he was crucified for the sins of the world.

14 To others it is given to believe on their words, that they also might have eternal life if they continue faithful.

15 And again, to some it is given by the Holy Ghost to know the differences of administration, as it will be pleasing unto the same Lord, according as the Lord will, suiting his mercies according to the conditions of the children of men….

17 And again, verily I say unto you, to some is given, by the Spirit of God, the word of wisdom.

18 To another is given the word of knowledge, that all may be taught to be wise and to have knowledge.

19 And again, to some it is given to have faith to be healed;

20 And to others it is given to have faith to heal.

21 And again, to some is given the working of miracles;

22 And to others it is given to prophesy;

23 And to others the discerning of spirits.

24 And again, it is given to some to speak with tongues;

25 And to another is given the interpretation of tongues.

26 And all these gifts come from God, for the benefit of the children of God.
