On Illness (D&C 42:43-52)

(43) If you’re sick and you don’t have the faith to be healed, (48) or I have appointed this time in your life to illness or death, so you can’t be healed, then it’s the job of everyone around you to dedicate resources and time to taking care of you with tenderness and without judgement. (44) When you’re sick, call for people with the priesthood to lay their hands on your head and invoke my name on your behalf, and whatever happens after that happens according to my will. If you die, then your death is an act of consecration; if you live, then your life must be an act of consecration too.

(45) When someone dies, I hope you feel enough love for them to truly mourn them—and if you disagreed with their behavior, if you think that they’re going to have things to answer for when they stand in front of my judgement seat, then mourn all the more. (46) Dying when you’re ready is wonderful, it’s a release and reunion—(47) but dying when you have’t prepared is hard, so mourn for those who aren’t ready yet but must come anyway.

(49) If you have faith that you can see and believe I will show you, then you’ll see. (50) If you have faith that you can hear and believe I will tell you, then you’ll hear. (51) If you have faith that you can walk with strength upon my earth and that it’s I who gives you the strength, then you will.

(50) And if you don’t have faith in those things right now, that’s OK. I’ve told you before, you all have different gifts, and I don’t require you to have faith in everything right now. Whether or not you can build your life around those things right now, you are still my children, and I will give you the strength to bear what you must.

43 And whosoever among you are sick, and have not faith to be healed, but believe, shall be nourished with all tenderness, with herbs and mild food, and that not by the hand of an enemy.

44 And the elders of the church, two or more, shall be called, and shall pray for and lay their hands upon them in my name; and if they die they shall die unto me, and if they live they shall live unto me.

45 Thou shalt live together in love, insomuch that thou shalt weep for the loss of them that die, and more especially for those that have not hope of a glorious resurrection.

46 And it shall come to pass that those that die in me shall not taste of death, for it shall be sweet unto them;

47 And they that die not in me, wo unto them, for their death is bitter.

48 And again, it shall come to pass that he that hath faith in me to be healed, and is not appointed unto death, shall be healed.

49 He who hath faith to see shall see.

50 He who hath faith to hear shall hear.

51 The lame who hath faith to leap shall leap.

52 And they who have not faith to do these things, but believe in me, have power to become my sons; and inasmuch as they break not my laws thou shalt bear their infirmities.
